Summary:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) works to support and enhance Vinfen’s nursing/medical care management and promote a culture of health and wellness for the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Division (PRD). The ADON is responsible for representing the clinical needs of persons served, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, and supporting appropriate clinical intervention and oversight. This role reports on medical/clinical matters to the PRD Director of Nursing or in their absence the Vice President of Nursing; and collaborates with divisional senior leadership on clinical
operations. This role supports the needs of PRD’s ACCS, PACT, and PRD Homeless Services programs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with Nursing and Divisional Leadership and Human Resources to advise on potential recruitment strategies and may review applicants to recommend clinical quality of applicants.
• Develops, and updates materials required to successfully orient new nurses and medical/nursing professionals. Identifies areas for further training and develop and deliver training, as needed.
• Acts as a MAP Consultant and maintain required credentials. Acts as a point of contact in conjunction with DON or VP of Nursing and divisional leadership, for Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Medication Administration Program (MAP) processes within the division. Manages internal policies and procedures, and collaborates with DMH and DPH MAP Coordinators to provide feedback as it relates to new mandates, etc. Offers guidance and assistance with MAP Audits and corrective action plans when necessary.
• Works with DON or VP of Nursing, divisional leadership, and Vinfen Training Department to revise MAP training to address revisions with MAP policies and procedures to comply with state standards. Reviews all completed MAP site audits and assist MAP Certified staff and program leadership to meet MAP corrective action requirements and deadlines. Offers training and support to MAP Certified staff and their leadership to ensure adherence to DPH policy and procedures.
• Collaborates with Quality Department, DON and/or VP of Nursing, and appropriate divisional leaders to assist with ongoing matters including, but not limited to, electronic health record (EHR) use and ongoing training.
• In collaboration with external vendors, helps to assist with testing, training, and evaluating processes as part of the EHR and future implementation of processes.
• Assists with ensuring compliance with infection control guidance and procedures.
• Supports operations with infection control related questions/concerns.
• Provides ongoing oversight of clinical practices to PRD RN personnel. Designs and promotes systems to monitor job clinical performance and outcomes for ACCS and PACT program nurses. Provides input for performance reviews related to the clinical skills and development needs of nursing personnel.
• Identifies and escalates areas of clinical performance concerns to DON, VP of Nursing and Divisional VP, as needed. Collaborates with Operational leadership to determine consequence(s) action(s).
• Works closely with pharmacies to help coordinate medication systems and assist in streamlining communication with teams and staff for ease of overall medication management and DPH policy adherence.
• Analyzes and interprets key clinical indicators to identify areas of medical/nursing concern, including trends, and best practices related to the health and well-being of persons served.
• Reviews key indicators related to compliance with policies and procedures, requirements, identifying gaps and opportunities for quality improvement.
• Works with clinical and divisional leadership, as directed by the Director of Nursing (DON) or Vice President of Nursing, to develop interventions and implement corrective action plans to address nursing performance concerns and improve clinical outcomes.
• Attends internal and external clinical conferences, interdisciplinary meetings, and risk reviews related to persons served, as assigned.
• Attends, as needed, in inpatient and virtual discharge planning meetings to ensure appropriate services, supports, and clinical resources are coordinated within Vinfen to manage the identified needs of persons served. Serves as a liaison with external healthcare providers and community partners, as appropriate.
• Works with DON or VP of Nursing to plan Nurse Community of Practice (CoP) meetings and help to identify divisional nursing needs and provide support to nurses in assigned programs.
• Shares Nursing On-Call coverage with nursing leadership, as needed and assigned.

Typical Requirements:
• 3-5 years’ experience in community health nursing
Preferred /Required Education:
• Bachelor’s degree required; MSN preferred.
• Any MAP-related trainings as directed by the Director of Nursing or VP of Nursing
Driving Requirements:
Driving is a requirement for this position using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle. - If using a personal vehicle, you must possess and maintain adequate insurance as well as maintain a safe driving record which is subject to annual checks. A valid driver's license must be presented at the time of employment. Incumbents must be at least 21 years of age, have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least one year, and must be able to pass a driver's screening background check.
Physical Effort:
Direct Care Roles - Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb as this is a very physically active position. Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or the use of a two-person lift. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a calculator, copier, and printer. Ability to sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways. Ability to assist clients with tasks of daily living. Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
