Overview

 

Summary:

The Director of Strategy works closely with members of the Vinfen Executive Team and service line leaders to lead the implementation of Vinfen’s strategic plan including implement strategic initiatives, develop new business opportunities and manage external partnerships. The content will span the full range of Vinfen priorities and may include service expansion, preparation and execution of procurements, partnerships, and innovation for service delivery. The Director of Strategy must be adept at developing relationships within and outside the organization and will play a highly visible role reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential job duties/responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the information listed below:

  • Working with Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Executive Officer, coordinates Vinfen’s long-term strategic plan implementation process supporting the development of strategic initiatives from inception to implementation employing a variety of tactics: cross-functional workstreams, research and data analysis.
  • Actively surveys external market and policy environment to stay abreast of changes and potential developments and to identify opportunities in the areas of human and disability services, behavioral health, integrated health care, digital inclusion, and other care delivery innovations.
  • Works closely with Dir of Government Relations to understand, respond to and ultimately shape policies that serve to improve and expand mental health and human services programs
  • Work closely with grant writing team and operational staff to position, scope and write grant applications for private funding
  • Creates business plans and presents business proposals to Vinfen leadership team.
  • Leads response to complex procurements, including those that represent business/service line expansions
  • Develops and maintains strong positive relationships with external parties in leadership positions in the health and human services environment.
  • Manages a cross-functional team and coordinates with service line and administrative department leaders to support the development of specific opportunities, including market assessment, financial analysis, and operational requirements.
  • As assigned, work on special projects and represent Vinfen in public forums including hearings, events, committees, and workgroups.
  • Supervises staff as needed

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience leading organization-wide strategic planning and developing systems for implementing and tracking strategic plan outcomes.
  • Confidence and adaptability to tackle complex and unstructured problems.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare delivery system and insurance markets, including understanding where there may be opportunities for collaboration and innovation with/ for human services
  • Expert quantitative analysis and critical reasoning skills to structure and carry out analyses.
  • Experience developing procurement strategies and managing large procurements.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and writing winning grant applications
  • Positive attitude and willingness to own all aspects of a project.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, presentation and communication skills.
  • Strong writing skills, including writing for internal and external purposes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of external audiences including leadership, clinical, government and community members.
  • Track record developing new programs from inception to implementation.
  • Understanding of the federal, state, local and private environments related to health care and human services in Massachusetts, Connecticut and other states.
  • Experience tracking and analyzing public policies that impact human services, behavioral health and disability services.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a matrixed organization.
  • Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability and gender issues.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's degree in business, public health or public policy preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development, strategy, program management, management consulting in government, human services, health care and/or management consulting.
